The WSBA International Practice Section presents a CLE on “European Union Law and its Relevance to the U.S. Legal Practitioner.”
Despite globalization trends, the United States and Europe remain each other’s most important markets. The transatlantic economy generates over $5 trillion in total commercial sales a year and employs up to 15 million workers on both sides of the Atlantic. Negotiations have been launched in 2013 towards a comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) to open these markets further. In the current state of economic integration in the European Union, regulation of economic activity and specific industries usually takes place at European (not national) level. To successfully navigate regulatory systems when operating in Europe, US businesses and their legal advisors need to understand the unique nature of the EU’s legal order and its regulatory processes.
